Today June 3rd was the first time of seeing the Torbay Express steam train this year which travels from Bristol to Kingswear for Dartmouth. The locomotive was Southern Region Rebuilt Merchant Navy class 35028 Clan Line with a twelve coach train. It set off from Bristol 36 minutes late and followed the more circular route with stops to pick up more passengers at Bath, Trowbridge and Westbury before stopping for water at Taunton where it had managed to reduce the lateness to only 6 minutes. Some smart work with the water refill enabled it to leave on time which it kept to until Exeter from where it was held up by the preceding service trains and passed the sea walls at Dawlish and Teignmouth at a leisurely pace.

Nick from his high vantage point near the end of the promenade at Teignmouth followed its progress past Sprey point.

The return run was a different story where it put on a good turn of speed to keep in front of the Penzance to Paddington HST all the way to Taunton.  Picture below taken at the cutting approaching Teignmouth station.
